WYANDANCH, NY – Early Saturday (April 11, 2009) morning the Wyandanch Fire Department responded to a working fire behind the post office near Straight Path and Woodland Road. This was the 2nd time firefighters put out a fire at this location within a 12 hour period.
Twelve hours earlier on Friday, April 10, 2009 firefighters responded to a vacant building where a small fire was put out. Twelve hours later, they returned to fight an even bigger fire.
As first arriving chiefs arrived on scene they put out the 13/35 and requested an exterior attack only. A tower ladder from North Babylon was called to the scene as 1-10-2 setup their deck gun for an exterior attack. Firefighters stretched lines to the sides of the building and began to bring the fire under control. 1-10-1 also lent a hand with their deck gun for a brief moment.
The fire was placed under control about half an hour after it was toned out. SCPD Arson was called back to the scene as multiple fires within a 12 hour period had many people looking at this as a suspicious fire.
