House Fire In North Babylon

NORTH BABYLON, NY – On Friday, April 24, 2009 the North Babylon Fire Department responded to a smoke showing call at 11 Jenkins Avenue. While en route dispatch advised responding units that sector cars on scene were advising this was a working fire. Quickly thereafter the 13/35 was transmitted and North Babylon was put to work.

Responding in along with North Babylon was West Islip for the R.I.T. Responding crews were met with heavy fire on the exposure 1 side which quickly began to engulf the entire house. Shortly into their initial attack West Islips sent in a 2^nd R.I.T. which was replaced with Deer Park when they were also put to work.

Despite their best efforts by firefighters, the house seemed to be a total loss. The heavy fire tore through the 1 store residence quickly. One civilian was transported to a local hospital with burns and a firefighter was transported for heat exhaustion.
