AMITYVILLE, NY – On Saturday, May 16, 2009 the Amityville Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at 127 Oak Street. The accident was the result of a hit and run.

The SUV was traveling on Oak Street when it hit another vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the corner of this house, rupturing the gas main and causing an evacuation of nearby houses and a closure of the street.

At least one of the occupants of this vehicle was caught by police not far from the scene. Firefighters were able to turn off the gas main to the house and removed the vehicle shortly thereafter.
