Vehicle Into Woods In West Islip

WEST ISLIP, NY – Around 8pm on Sunday, July 26, 2009 the West Islip Fire Department was toned out for an overturned auto on Route 231 near Sunrise Highway. As units arrived on scene they were met with an overturned vehicle into the woods. The accident occurred Northbound on Route 231 at the Eastbound Sunrise Highway Exit.

The vehicle which flipped was heading Northbound on Route 231. The driver somehow lost control of the vehicle and cross over the off-ramp and on-ramp, slammed into the guardrail and flipped into the trees. The vehicle would have slid down the embankment into the water had it not been for the trees the vehicle struck. These trees held up the vehicle from sliding, allowing the driver to get out of the vehicle before emergency personal arrived.

The driver was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital via a West Islip Ambulance. Firefighters were released from the scene after the patient was transported and the accident was left with a private tow company.
