01/27/2008: Working Fire In Dix Hills
DIX HILLS, NY – The Dix Hills Fire Department was put to work early Sunday morning (January 27, 2008) when a fast moving fire spread through a home at 38 Woods End Drive North. Suffolk County began taking multiple phone calls for a garage fire at the location and as first responding units arrived they found a fire quickly moving through the 2 story dwelling.
Dix Hills Engine 2 picked up a hydrant down Fox Lane while Ladder Truck 8 positioned themselves in the driveway and picked up a hydrant down the block in front of 37 Woods End Drive North. Deer Park responded in with a F.A.S.T. assignment while Huntington Manor responded in with 1 engine to the scene. Multiple ambulances from various agencies were also on scene.
Companies were able to control the fire and bring things under control within about an hour. Extensive overhaul took place due to the size of the house. Early reports of people trapped inside worried firefighters as they arrived but thankfully there were no reported injuries at the scene. The homeowners were able to escape from the fire unharmed. The fire is currently under investigation by the Suffolk County Arson Squad.
