01/29/2008: Overturned Auto With Entrapment In South Farmingdale
SOUTH FARMINGDALE, NY – At 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 the South Farmingdale Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Woodward Parkway and Lambert Avenue. A pickup truck struck a Honda SUV on the driver’s side flipping the SUV onto it’s side, entrapping the driver.
Nassau County Police responded in with multiple sector cars and two ESU trucks. ESU 2422 and 2423 were both on scene operating multiple tools to extricate the driver. South Farmingdale’s Rescue Truck 9 was also on scene assisting with extrication. Using cutters the three crews cut the support posts of the roof and using body weight, bent the roof downwards in order to extricate the patient. While crews operated the tools NCPD ambulance personnel climbed inside the vehicle through the front windshield (which had been removed) to assess the driver.
Within 25 minutes the driver of the SUV had been extricated and was loaded into a NCPD Ambulance and transported to a local hospital. ESU Truck 2422 pulled the SUV back up right and secured the lose pieces of roofing so the vehicle could be towed. The condition of the driver is currently unknown. There were no other injuries reported for this MVA.
