02/01/2008: Car Drives Into Local East Meadow Store
EAST MEADOW, NY – Just after 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 01, 2008 the North Bellmore Fire Department responded to a car vs. store at 497 Newbridge Road. Upon arrival they found a Crown Victoria partially inside the front of Rashel’s Barber Shop. Nassau County Police were on scene with an ambulance and ESU so the fire department was given a disregard quickly upon arrival.
According to store owners, this was not the first time a vehicle had struck one of their store fronts before. Outraged and angry store owners planned to meet with their landlord to discuss options of a barrier separating the parking lot from their stores. Although they were unsuccessful in having a barrier installed in past discussions with their landlord they were hoping for a better outcome this time.
The elderly gentleman who was driving the vehicle suffered only minor injuries and was treated by a Nassau County Ambulance on scene. The vehicle was backed out of the store by a Nassau County Police officer while shocked employees from inside the store looked at the damage they would have to clean up. No other injuries were reported.
