06/18/2008: Shooting In North Amityville

NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY – At 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2007 the North Amityville Fire Department responded to a shooting victim at the corner of Somerset Road and Avon Drive. Suffolk County Police on scene requested the ambulance respond in forthwith and requested aviation to start up. The victim was shot in the leg by a vehicle passing by.

North Amityville Fire Department along with EMS personnel from the Copiague Fire Department transported the victim to a field at the Northeast Elementary School around the corner where they met a Suffolk County Police helicopter. Once the Suffolk County helicopter landed a flight medic evaluated a patient and decided an air transport would be necessary. However, due to some kind of problem with the helicopter, they were unable to transport toe victim out by air. The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he had surgery and is listed in critical condition (at the time of this article).
