06/27/2007: Unusual Rescue In Lindenhurst
LINDENHURST, NY – At 12:33 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 the Lindenhurst Fire Department responded to an EMS alarm at 177 South 5th Street for an adult female who was passing out. While en route dispatch updated the ambulance with further information stating there was a spiral stair case in the house and that the patient was on the 2nd floor. After EMS evaluated their patient and placed the patient on a backboard they requested Ladder Truck 1-6-4 to the scene. The house was being renovated and a 2nd story door, which was boarded up, seemed to be the best opening to remove the patient. Truck Company members raised a ladder to the 2nd floor, removed a wood panel covering up the 2nd story door and brought up a Stokes basket in which they placed the patient. They then slowly lowered the patient to the ground where she was moved to a waiting ambulance stretcher. The patient was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip to undergo further evaluation, although her injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
