06/28/2007: House Fire In Plainview
PLAINVIEW, NY – Just after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2007 the Plainview Fire Department responded to a working kitchen fire in a two story residential building at 553 Woodbury Road, a property within the Green Roof Estates. First due Engine 951 hooked up to a hydrant on Woodbury Road and stretched two hand lines into the building. Firefighters were met with smoke and fire in a kitchen which was extending into other parts of the house. Plainview Ladder Truck 953 setup in front of the building and extended its aerial ladder to the roof.
Mutual aid was called to the scene from neighboring departments. Both Hicksville and Bethpage sent one ladder each to the scene. Hicksville also supplied a FAST assignment while Squad 4 from Bethpage also stood by on scene. Syosset lent a hand as well sending Engine 5855 to the scene.
Within about half an hour of the alarm the fire had been knocked down and companies began overhauling. Firefighters found the family dog while overhauling and brought out the hound unharmed to its eagerly waiting family.
Other departments that assisted in covering the town and responding to the scene include Jericho and Melville. It is currently unknown what the cause of the fire was. Thankfully there were no serious injuries. The only reported injuries include those of a firefighter, who hurt his hands.
