NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY – At around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2007 the North Amityville Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident in front of “Big Lots” near the corner of New Highway and Eastbound Sunrise Highway. Upon arrival by first responding chief’s all responding apparatus were requested on a forthwith response. A truck had struck two vehicles in the Eastbound lanes. The chief stated he had a child trapped in the back seat of one of the vehicles, a GMC Envoy
An EMT driving by was first to arrive on scene and immediately began to stabilize the child’s head as he waited for additional emergency personnel. With both rear doors of the Envoy stuck closed Firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” to remove the passenger side rear door. While a responder climbed through, what was left of, the back window of the Envoy the door was cut free.
As emergency personnel worked on freeing the child from the Envoy, additional ambulances from Copiague and North Lindenhurst were called to the scene. A total of 7 patients were transported to a local hospital. Four patients were transported via two separate North Amityville ambulances, one via North Lindenhurst and two via Copiague.
