06/30/2007: Traumatic Motorcycle Accident In Wyandanch
WYANDANCH, NY – Around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2007 the Wyandanch Fire Department along with Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with reports of a person pinned under a vehicle at the corner of Straight Path and Davidson Street.
According to a Suffolk County Police Press Release the patient, Brandon Martin of Wyandanch, lost control of his motorcycle while traveling in the Southbound lane on Straight Path. After losing control he slid into the Northbound lane, landed on the hood of the Lincoln Zephyr and after the driver of the Lincoln applied her breaks Martin became pinned under her vehicle.
As first responding units arrived Martin was pulled from underneath the vehicle and CPR was started. Aviation was requested to fly in due to mechanism of injuries. As soon as an ambulance arrived the decision to transport via ground was made and he was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. Unfortunately Martin’s injuries were so severe that he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Dozens of motorcyclists stared in disbelief and anger as they watched one of their own being worked on from this horrible accident. Police closed Straight Path in both directions from Booker Avenue down to Wyandanch Avenue while an accident investigation took place. Both vehicles were impounded while a safety check was performed.
