07/02/2008: Motorcycle MVA In Amityville
AMITYVILLE, NY – Early this evening (Wednesday, July 02, 2008) the Amityville Fire Department was toned out for a vehicle vs. pedestrian call in front of 520 Route 110. Upon arrival by first arriving police officers and fire department personnel they were met with a motorcyclist down in the street. Rescue was requested forthwith when it was learned that the motorcyclist was possibly thrown from his motorcycle after striking the back of a car.
Amityville Fire Department responded to the scene with Ambulance 1-1-12 and Rescue Truck 1-1-15. While EMT’s from the Amityville Fire Department worked on their patient ALS personnel were requested from the Copiague Fire Department. Copiague responded in with Ambulance 1-3-1 to assist their neighboring department.
Personnel on scene decided to request a Medevac due to the nature of their patients injuries. Suffolk County Police were already working on an incident at the Robert Moses Bridge and a helicopter in that area was re-routed to a school near this accident’s location. Both ambulances responded to the landing zone where they were met by Suffolk County Police Helicopter 2.
Once the helicopter landed on the ground, they had to unload some of their water emergency gear (i.e.: a water rescue basket) to make room for their patient. The motorcycle rider was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries. It is currently unknown as to the nature of his injuries. Southbound Route 110 remained closed in the area while police investigated the accident scene. Units were taken up shortly after the helicopter went airborne to the hospital.
