07/04/2008: Serious MVA In East Meadow
EAST MEADOW, NY – A five car accident ended with one fatality and one serious injury after a 4:15 p.m. accident on July 4, 2008 at the intersection of Merrick Avenue and Prospect Avenue.
According to sources a 65 year old man driving a 1999 Oldsmobile was traveling northbound on Merrick Avenue when he rear ended a 1999 Jeep. After striking the Jeep his Oldsmobile then entered the southbound lanes where it struck a Subaru. The Subaru that was hit then struck a 2005 Audi. Meanwhile the Oldsmobile continued off the road where it struck a traffic signal pole finally coming to rest on the front lawn of a home at 788 Merrick Avenue, only after striking a Dodge SUV parked in the driveway.
The 65 year old man was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. It is unknown how the 65 year old man died, as his family declined an Autopsy due to religious reasons, but there is some unofficial speculation that he may have suffered a heart attack or other medical problem which let to the crash.
Three passengers in the Jeep and two passengers in the Audi were uninjured. The driver of the Subaru was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he is recovering from a fractured pelvis, ribs and ankle.
