07/05/2008: Fatal MVA In Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, NY – An elderly couple was killed Saturday ( July 5, 2008) in Oceanside after a terrible accident at the intersection of Oceanside Road and Foxhurst Road. The Oceanside Fire Department responded to the call and when they arrived, they initially only saw one vehicle in the road, the Kia SUV. However, upon further investigation, they found a second vehicle in the backyard of home on the Southwest corner of the intersection.

According to sources, the elderly couple was traveling Northbound on Oceanside Road in their Toyota Camry when a 2007 Kia SUV, head Westbound on Foxhurst Road, ran a red light and struck the Toyota Camry. The Toyota Camry was then sent flying over an SUV waiting at the light, through some bushes and a fence and finally stopping against a tree in the backyard of the corner house. Meanwhile the 2007 Kia was sent spinning Westbound down Foxhurst Road where it finally came to a stop in the Westbound lanes facing the wrong direction.

A Medevac was initially requested once rescue personnel arrived on scene, but after EMS on scene evaluated the two elderly patients and confirmed they had passed on, the Medevac was cancelled. Meanwhile the driver of the 2007 Kia was extricated by fire department personnel using the “Hurst Tool” and was transported to a local hospital.

The Nassau County Police Department closed off the area while they conducted an accident investigation. ESU was called back after the accident investigation where they were requested to cut the fence and bushes on the corner house. After this was completed, a NCPD tow truck arrived to pull the Toyota Camry from the backyard.
