09/30/2007: MVA With Heavy Rescue For Amityville
AMITYVILLE, NY – At 3:03 a.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2007 the Amityville Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident in front of 56 Broadway . Amityville Police were on scene with a Nissan Altima on it’s side with the driver pinned inside. Amityville FD Responded in with an ambulance and heavy rescue truck. As they were setting up lighting Suffolk County ESU2 arrived on scene to assist in the extrication.
While an Amityville EMT crawled inside the vehicle through the back window to tend to the aided, emergency personnel began to cut the support posts of the roof. With all of the support posts cut the roof was easily bent downwards so that personnel could remove the driver.
EMT’s boarded/collared a female occupant and transported her to a local hospital to be evaluated, although she did not appear to have life threatening injuries. It is currently unknown how the vehicle ended up on it’s side. The driver did manage to take out two street signs however. Units were returned to service at 4:07 a.m. Amityville FD, PD and Suffolk ESU did a great job in what appeared to be a text book rescue.
