11/14/2007: MVA In Copiague Sends One Through Fence
COPIAGUE, NY – Around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 the Copiague Fire Department responded to a two car MVA at the corner of Great Neck Road and Copiague Place. Being a few blocks away from their headquarters chiefs and apparatus were on the road within minutes.
Copiague responded in with their heavy rescue truck, an engine and an ambulance. Amityville FD was requested for a 2nd ambulance to the scene as well. Upon arrival responding units found two vehicles which had struck each other. One vehicle was in the street at the corner while the other vehicle was on the front lawn of a house at the corner of Great Neck Road and Copiague Place. The vehicle went through a chain linked fence and came to rest up against a tree on the front lawn.
Two patients from the vehicles were treated for injuries sustained from the crash and transported to a local hospital. Although Copiague firefighters had the hurst tool out, ready to go, they were fortunate enough not to have to use the tool, as some brute strength was all that was needed to open the car doors. All units were returned to service shortly after the accident took place.
