11/20/2007: Overturned Auto In North Amityville
NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY – Just before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 the North Amityville Fire Department was toned out for a motor vehicle accident in front of the “Mi-Joe Auto Specialists” repair shop located at 632 Route 110. Upon arrival by first responding chief’s extensive mutual aid was requested to the scene as they had multiple patients.
A passenger van and a smaller car collided with each other sending the passenger van into a utility pole. The utility pole was snapped in two and a utility box fell to the ground. The passenger van flipped onto the driver’s side trapping all of the occupants inside. The smaller vehicle sustained front end damage.
Fire Department personnel cut a hole in the roof of the passenger van in order to extricate all of the occupants. Mutual aid ambulances from Amityville, East Farmingdale and South Farmingdale were called to the scene. Amityville also responded in with an Engine and Fire Police personnel. In total, eight (8) patients were transported to local hospitals.
Suffolk County ESU3 was on scene to upright the vehicle. LIPA was also on scene quickly to work on the utility pole, which caused overhead wires to hang down. Fire Police opened Route 110 Northbound so some of the traffic could pass. However, southbound Route 110 remained closed due to the low hanging utility lines.
