11/30/2007: Copiague FD Battles A Car Fire
COPIAGUE, NY – During evening rush hour traffic on Friday, November 30, 2007 the Copiague Fire Department responded to a signal 14 (car fire) in the westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway near Decker Street (2/10th of a mile east of Great Neck Road). Upon arrival by first responding chief’s they stated they had a working car fire and requested units respond in from 35th Street.
Upon arrival by Copiague Engine 1-3-9 they ran two lines and hit the fire, which had now fully engulfed the vehicle. Traffic heading westbound was detoured down Bethpage Road until the fire was brought under control and removed from the roadway.
It is currently unknown what the cause of the fire was. Thankfully the occupant of the vehicle was able to escape unharmed. Copiague FD responded in with a total of two engines, their heavy rescue truck and an ambulance.
