03/31/2007: Amityville Deck Fire
AMITYVILLE, NY – Around 7:00pm on Saturday, March 31, 2007 the Amityville Fire Department was toned out for a deck fire. The fire was to the rear of 56 Braham Avenue. Units on the road were advised by 1st responding units that they had a fully involved deck fire to battle. Massapequa was also toned out to standby with a F.A.S.T. team at the scene.
The Dauntless Hose and Engine Company #2 pumped water to Engine 1-1-4 upon arrival. Amityville also had tower ladder 1-1-5 standing by in case it was needed. The deck fire was brought under control quickly and Amityville firefighters were able to stop it from extending into the home. A neighboring house attempted to put out the fire before it spread too far with a garden hose, but the fire quickly grew out of control.
Thankfully nobody was hurt in this fire and the house was saved. Unfortunately the deck was completely destroyed and so was a fence right next to the deck. It is unknown at this time what the cause of the fire was.
